Originally Tiendanimal was actually just an online shop launched in 2006, but seven years later it opened its first bricks-and-mortar store. It did not forget its roots in the Internet, and customers still have the option of collecting their online orders in store from so-called "Click & Collect" lockers.
Tiendanimal released overall sales figures of 60 mio euros for 2016, achieved with around 24 000 articles and 700 000 customers in the online shop alone. The percentages accounted for by dog food (60 per cent of sales) and cat food (15 per cent of sales) have remain unchanged for a long time. The company focuses on natural food and its three private labels Criadores, Breed Up and Salvaje, all manufactured in Spain. Customers seeking supermarket brands at Tiendanimal will be disappointed.

Rapid growth

In summer 2016, ten years after the company was established, 14 stores were in operation with retail areas ranging from 100 to 1 600 m². Of these, three are in Madrid and three in Malaga, with other outlets in Cordoba, Murcia, Aviles and Castellon. Roughly half of the stores were located in shopping malls. At the end of 2017, over 30 stores were in existence, eight of these in and around Madrid alone, eight in Andalusia, and the others scattered across Spain, including three brand new outlets in the economically strong region of Barcelona.
Up to September 2017 online customers and the company's own stores were supplied exclusively from the central warehouse at the head office in Malaga. Another 15 000 m² warehouse came on stream in Sesena, located centrally in Spain 35 km south of Madrid, in September.

Premieres in Granada and Madrid

In April the company's first veterinary clinic, Clinicanimal, opened in Malaga. Further clinics are expected to open in Jerez, Seville, Granada, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Almería and Madrid, the company announces.
At the end of July, in the baking heat of the Spanish summer, the first store in Granada opened - the company's eighth outlet in Andalusia and its 26th store in total. The retail area of approximately 1 000 m² features 6 000 products, supplemented by numerous services such as grooming, an in-house veterinary clinic, "Click & Collect" and others.
