Mobile phones are mainly used for private purposes at work. These and other findings were revealed by a representative survey conducted by Swiss online retailer Galaxus. The representative survey questioned 5 060 people in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France and Italy.
Respondents from all countries said that they use their smartphones at work mainly for private purposes. 65 per cent make personal calls or check text messages. Europeans also like to use their smartphones at work to read news and browse social networks. In Italy, almost one in two people scrolls through TikTok and Instagram during working hours. This represents 47 per cent of respondents, the highest figure in Europe.
In Switzerland, mobile phones are the most important business tool in everyday working life. 52 per cent said they use it for work-related tasks. Europe agrees that smartphones should be switched to silent mode in the office. This is because 68 per cent of respondents find ringing phones inappropriate.
