As well as handling incoming goods and quality assurance, the services performed by B+S include order-picking, packaging and some aspects of co-packing and display construction. The logistics provider has invested heavily to fulfil these functions and has adapted its logistics halls in Alzenau to meet the expectations of its major client. Around half of the 62 000 m2 warehouse area is reserved for Nestlé Purina, accommodating up to 52 000 pallets. From Alzenau, customers throughout Germany are supplied with the pet food manufacturer's full product range. The location's plus points are primarily its central situation and its excellent links to the motorway network of the Rhine-Main region.180 new staffIn the last year, B+S has invested extensively and now boasts around 148 000 m2 of modern logistics facilities at seven sites in Germany, which are all IFS-certified. 180 new employees have been taken on, bringing the company's workforce to around 450 staff. Its fleet of lift trucks has also been completely renewed, while the warehouse halls have all been fitted with modern high-bay shelf systems. Order-picking is performed using the pick-by-voice system. A new 12 000 m2 hall is to be unveiled in Alzenau in the second quarter of 2017. B+S has opted for reliable, flexible transport and logistics services to compete with the market leaders in the logistics business. It has its own fleet of trucks comprising 60 vehicles as well as an IT subsidiary in Syscon. It was the latter which realised the connection to an SAP interface for Nestlé Purina. The Syscon inventory management program was adapted to the requirements of Nestlé Purina for this and covers processes such as display construction, quality assurance and batch transfer.
