Ferplast opts for sustainability

Sustainability is the word on everyone’s lips. Even industry is making ever greater efforts to configure production and distribution in a more environmentally friendly manner than was the case a few years ago. The Italian company Ferplast is one example of this trend. It has now brought out a new product line under the brand name “Green Sun”, which is intended to present clearly the sustainable philosophy of the company. The new line is divided into the two product ranges “Tree Friend” and “Plastic Wood”. Among other things, the “Tree Friend” range comprises bird cages like the “Hemmy”, a wooden aviary equipped with all the re­quisite accessories as well as a pull-out tray. This range focuses primarily on wild birds. The “Natura” label thus covers aviaries in various sizes that offer birds hospitality and protection, according to Ferplast, along with an excellent opportunity for nest building and breeding. In addition, the range offers various feeders and “Natura Fun” products, including bird houses in the shape of a cloud or clock. To produce the “Tree Friend” line, Ferplast says that it uses only wood that comes from responsibly managed forests in which the environmental, social and economic interests of the indigenous country are respected. Wood dust and plastic As well as its “Tree Friend” line, Ferplast’s new “Plastic Wood” products have been designed with a view to environmental compatibility and the use of the latest technology. The new brand name covers various homes for small animals. These include the rabbit cage “Rabbit 100 Green Sun”, which comes complete with accessories like a drinking bottle, feeder, bowl and a small house. There are also cages for guinea pigs and hamsters. All products are available in the colours beige and brown. The special feature of these products is the raw material used in their manufacture. They are all made from an innovative material consisting of recycled wood dust originating from sustainably managed forests and plastic. Thanks to this special mix of raw materials, “Plastic Wood” reduces the use of materials deriving from non-renewable sources like petrol.
