"We have set a new quality standard with our development of these treats, which no longer have an unpleasant colour," says Dominik Stohler, who runs Delipet together with Jakob Wenger. Adding a fine glaze of malt and minerals has given the product a very agreeable aroma. And, according to Dominik Stohler, acceptance has increased and the natural malt element promotes digestion. The light-brown hue makes the chews more attractive from the sales point of view, differentiating the product visually, and pet owners find the treats more agreeable to use as they no longer carry a film of grease. The vet responsible for development and feeding tests, Dr Carla Schubiger, recorded outstanding results during acceptance testing.The high-tech production facility at Delipet's headquarters in Hölstein, a few miles south of Basle, operates in conformity with the ISO 9001 and ISF standards. Around 40 staff are employed on production and work on a multi-shift basis. Just recently a new warehouse was completed for storing raw materials and to extend the order-picking and shipping areas.
Majority of raw materials from SwitzerlandThe raw materials for the chews originate in the EU and all over Switzerland. Suppliers are subject to stringent quality requirements and incoming goods inspections. The plant is also monitored by the veterinary authorities. The stipulated hygiene standards for the products are guaranteed by laboratory analysis. It goes without saying that Delipet also has in place an identification system enabling all products to be traced throughout the production process and beyond. "We would love to get all our raw materials from Switzerland, but there are not sufficient resources here. But we cover the majority of our requirements from Swiss sources," says Dominik Stohler. Even bought-in goods are subjected to heating to guarantee sterility and dry substance values.Under its "DeliBest" label Delipet markets a premium range of natural treats including ears, beef sticks, beef twists, venison and ostrich specialities, fatreduced snacks and all kinds of tripe products. The company scored a success with its "DentaBone" chew in the form of a bone: the production level in the second year rose to several hundred thousand items, which were marketed successfully in over ten countries, even as a private label product.
