544 APPMA member companies took part in the fair, occupying a total of 1 492 stands.
But what would APPMA be without its awards? The “Best Booth Award” was brought into being as a way of rating the design and general appearance of fair stands, classified in separate classes according to size. This year first place in the “Chairman’s Category” (big stands) was taken by Doskocil Manufacturing of Arlington, Texas, followed by Aspen Pet Products Inc. of Denver and the Canadian company Eheim North America. Winner in the “President’s Category” (small stands) was the Canadian Amberhill Collection from Ontario, ahead of Novapet of Fort Lauderdale in Florida and Hanover Accessories of Plymouth.
And then there is the “New Products Showcase”, a competition that involves firms entering their innovative new products, which are then displayed on a special exhibition area. Judging is carried out in nine categories. In the “Dog” section, for example, Doskocil won first prize for its “Petmate Portable Pet Home”. Global Pet Products Inc. was winner in the “Gift” category with the “Pet Wheel Away”, and Rolf C. Hagen filled three places at once on the winners’ dais: third place in the “Point of Purchase” category for “Exo Terra Lighting Rock”, and second and third places in the “Small Animal” category for the new terrarium products “Exo Terra Reptile Den” and “Exo Terra Feeding Rock”.
Manufacturers present their competition entries in the “New Products Showcase”.
The next APPMA will take place in the Georgia World Congress Center, Atlanta, from 26 to 28 February 2003. Contact the APPMA Trade Show Department, Tel. +1/800/452-12 25, or www.appma.org. phg
