The 43rd Annual Pet Industry Christmas Trade Show and Educational Conference, held on 2-4 October at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont (Chicago), attracted more than 8 800 registered buyers from nearly 2 600 firms. 728 exhibitors occupied 1 187 booths, including 144 companies exhibiting for the first time. “We noticed that buying was up significantly from the last couple of shows,” said trade show director Colette Fairchild. “Exhibitors reported steady sales throughout the weekend. Our industry seems to have weathered the recession better than many others.” Returning to the Christmas show this year was the All-Natural area, featuring companies with natural or “green” products representing nearly every segment of the pet industry. Also returning was the Aquatic Answers Hall. The hall featured aquatic exhibitors and individually tailored “Ask the Expert” sessions between aquatic retailers and well-respected members of the field. Furthermore, Pet Age magazine and H.H. Backer Associates sponsored several free educational seminars designed to appeal to all types of retailers.
