The Central Garden & Pet Company has announced results for its second quarter ended 28 March. The company reported net sales of $476 million in the quarter, a decline of two per cent compared with $485 million in the comparable fiscal 2008 period. The company reported operating income of $57.2 million, an increase of 28 per cent compared with $44.7 million in the year-ago period. Fiscal second quarter net sales for the pet products segment were $229 million, a decline of one per cent compared with the fiscal 2008 period. Operating income for the pet products segment was $31.9 million, compared with $28.2 million in the year-ago period. Branded product sales were $190 million, a decrease of $3 million compared with last year. Sales of other manufacturers’ products were $38 million, unchanged compared with last year.
