Fressnapf still hungry

Specialist discounter will break the billion euro sales barrier by the end of the year

The speciality discounter Fressnapf will hit sales of over € 1 bn in 2008. It is likely to achieve sales of € 755 mio in Germany and € 308 mio in eleven other European countries. This equates to an increase of 13 per cent for Fressnapf compared with last year. The company attributes a sizeable share of this growth in sales to its strategy of opening more themed XXL and Megazoo stores. “For me, Fressnapf is still a start-up company. We’re young, bold and different to all the others. We’re hungry and far from satisfied. I say to all pet owners and pets in Europe: we still have plenty of great ideas in the locker,” says Fressnapf boss Torsten Toeller. There are plans to advance internationalisation further in the coming year. In Poland and Sweden, the company will be relaunched in the market. It also intends to open an online shop in autumn 2009 as a further distribution channel.
