New quarter results from Central Garden & Pet

Central Garden & Pet has announced preliminary results for its fiscal third quarter, which ended on 28 June. The American distributor and producer of branded products for the garden and the pet supply market reported net sales of $493 mio in the quarter, an increase of 6 per cent compared to $467 mio in the comparable fiscal 2007 period. Income from operations was $33.9 mio, a decline of 9 per cent compared to $37.2 mio in the year-ago period. For the first nine months of fiscal 2008, Central Garden & Pet reported net sales of $1 291 mio, an increase of 2 per cent from $1 270 mio in the comparable 2007 period. The operating loss for the period was $312 mio compared to operating income of $89 mio in the year-ago period.
