The Hornbach Group maintained its growth course in the 2005/2006 financial year (1 March 2005 to 28 February 2006). According to a company press release, the preliminary figures show an increase in group sales of 6.6 per cent to € 2 367 mio. The share of sales generated outside Germany rose from 33 to 35 per cent. The impetus for growth derives predominantly from the company’s international business, with sales in DIY stores and garden centres abroad up by 14. 5 per cent, while sales on a comparable store area exceeded the already high values of the previous year by 3.9 per cent. Sales by Hornbach in Germany rose by 2.8 per cent, although like-for-like sales fell by 1.1 per cent, in line with the general trend in the sector in Germany. For the group as a whole, comparable store sales grew by 0.5 per cent on account of the strong showing abroad. Hornbach now has 124 stores in eight countries, with an overall retail area of approx. 1.3 mio m².
