The family-run company Bewital produces both wet and dry food in its own factories on the production site in Münsterland on the basis of fresh meat. For the Belcando and Leonardo brands, comprehensive and coordinated feeding concepts for dogs and cats have been developed there, which are consistently expanded based on current customer needs.
“Whether recipes without grain for sensitive pets or varieties that are tailored to individual needs such as size, age and activity level of the four-legged friend - we offer all solutions directly from one source,” explains managing director Dr Jürgen Wigger. In doing so, it is particularly important to him to also implement the suggestions of specialist retailers.
“It all depends on the ingredients”
Bewital petfood develops recipes with selected raw materials according to a holistic nutritional concept. First and foremost is the meat: “Thanks to our own fresh meat processing, we have optimal control over the raw materials - from targeted selection to ensuring a consistently high quality,” says Jürgen Wigger. A modern extrusion process yields fresh meat contents of up to 85 per cent in the dry food. In the process – comparable to steam cooking in health-conscious cuisine - steam is used almost exclusively to break down the nutrients.
“Most of our growth in recent years, however, is due to our wet food production,” Jürgen Wigger continues. With constant investment in the expansion of the plants as well as the construction of a 37-metre-high logistics centre, he sees his company well positioned for the future in this segment as well.
The highlight of the current product innovations also takes this trend into account: with the wet food line Leonardo Extra Filet, the company offers six new varieties for cat customers, which are intended to provide even more variety and enjoyment with fillet pieces.
