At its plant in Altrip near Ludwigshafen, these ingredients are processed using a variety of methods and are then marketed to well-known manufacturing companies and retailers worldwide. The origins of the family-owned firm, which employs 20 people, date back to 1996, when company founder Waldemar Kessler started reselling Russian freshwater shrimp in Germany as dry food for ornamental and pond fish. Due to the high demand for natural food products, he expanded his range continuously to include insects, fruit, berries, vegetables, algae, herbs, blossoms and extrudates. Now the company produces and refines over 1 000 different natural raw ingredients and products for all pets in its 10 500 m2 plant in Altrip. The next generation of the family, Waldemar Kessler's son Erich and his daughters Lina Reich and Kerstin Kessler, are already entrenched in the company, which employs seven family members altogether.
