Tiernahrung Deuerer is one of the top three pet food manufacturers in Europe. From its new site in the Bretten-Gölshausen industrial zone, the company from Baden-Württemberg delivers to supermarkets, drugstores, leading branded manufacturers and wholesalers in 20 countries worldwide. The family-run company started out as a butcher's shop in 1959 and since 1990 has concentrated exclusively on the development, manufacture and marketing of pet food. It is among the highest-performing manufacturers and drivers of innovation in the categories of stand-up pouches, aluminium trays and treats for dogs and cats. 40 per cent of the products sold fall into the premium segment. In 2013 Tiernahrung Deuerer also made the news when the company acquired a stake in the Vitakraft-Werken.

€ 50 mio invested

The company has invested € 50 mio in its biggest construction project to date. Around 240 employees now work in a three-shift operation at the new plant. "We have grown steadily in recent years and our production and warehouse capacity had reached its limits," says owner and managing director Hans-Jürgen Deuerer. "By bringing the logistics and packaging together and connecting them to a professional logistics concept, we have created a foundation for further growth and for fast, reliable deliveries to our customers in the future."

Double the warehouse capacity

At the heart of the construction project that has been realised in the last three years is a high-bay warehouse rising 25 metres from the ground. This has an ultra-modern warehouse management system and space for 18 000 pallets in all, thus doubling the previous warehouse capacity of Tiernahrung Deuerer at a stroke. Hitherto its storage was distributed over various external and third-party warehouses in Bretten, reducing efficiency and resulting in additional journeys that can now be cut out. An added advantage is that trucks can be loaded much more quickly than before at the new plant, and services such as co-packing can be offered to customers on a greater scale than previously. "All in all, the new logistics and packaging centre gives us greater independence and makes us more productive, enabling us to concentrate fully on the development of innovative, creative pet food products," Deuerer emphasises.
