It all started in 1960 with a small pet shop in Ludwigshafen when Joachim Böhme, a chemist by training and an aquarium enthusiast, turned his hobby into a career. Now scarcely any company can better JBL in terms of its competence in the aquatics field. With regard to food and water care in particular, the company invests a great deal of time and money in research, development and the optimisation of products and manufacturing.
At Interzoo 2016, the company focused on presentation of the new ProPond line. JBL gained many new customers with this, while many existing customers were attracted back to the pond segment by the product range, having withdrawn from it due to competition from DIY stores and garden centres. 14 products are offered in up to four different grain sizes. However, new ventures call for a new infrastructure, and the production start-up of the new garden pond food lines was marked at the start of September by the "ProPond Opening".
Party atmosphere
The new production hall was officially opened by JBL managing director Roland Böhme. Having taken two years to build, the plant is now running in three-shift operation. Production of the first orders totalling 60 tonnes started rolling as soon as the tape was cut. Ten new jobs have been created by the new production line.JBL sent out invitations to a grand house party. Trading partners from within Germany and abroad took up the invitation, with around 2 100 people visiting the company headquarters in Neuhofen over the three-day event. Among these were more than 100 koi and pond specialists, attracted by JBL's new ProPond line. The level of international interest naturally surprised and pleased the responsible staff at JBL. Twelve pond supply retailers travelled from Brazil alone, with many more arriving from Belgium, Spain, France, England, Hungary, Israel, Turkey, Russia and Hong Kong.

Not only were retailers welcomed to the weekend event in Neuhofen; other friendly companies were not to be denied the opportunity to exhibit their wares, and so Euro-Fisch-Schmölzing, Dr Sandra Lechleiter, European Pond Service, Bresser Mikroskope, HP-Aquarium and Anima Soft Toys from Strasbourg took advantage of the sector event to draw attention to their products.
