The company has also developed into a successful agent for internationally famous corporations like 7-11, Carrefour and Starbucks. Starting out as a flour manufacturer, Uni-President gradually diversified into the food, feed, beverage and dairy businesses. The aquatics division entered into technical cooperation with Nissin Food Products Co. Ltd. (Japan) in 1969 to produce eel feed and was the first to market with shrimp feed in 1978. In 1983, the division began operating independently as the Uni-President aquatic business division. Natto probiotic (Bacillus subtilis natto) has been added to “Aqua master” koi food and ornamental fish food to aid digestion and reduce water pollution. This breakthrough development was presented in a paper to the World Aquaculture Society in 2007. As Uni-President explains, following rigorous experimentation and testing it was determined that the addition of a suitable amount of natto probiotic can benefit fish digestion, reduce excrement amounts and lower faecal density, making it more soluble in water. When the natto probiotic interacts with fish excrement, harmful nitrous acids are…
