The "Slide-Rite" was introduced into Europe around ten years ago. It had previously been launched successfully in the USA and in one consumer survey was even named as most popular reclosable system. The first food storage pouch featuring the slider zip technology was unveiled under the "Hefty OneZip" logo in 1995.In Europe, the first packs equipped with the "Slide-Rite" closure were used by the American company Kimberly-Clark for packaging its moist cleaning wipes. The French company Entremont followed in Kimberley-Clark's wake with grated cheese packaged in "Slide-Rite" bags. Manufacturers of pet food also quickly became aware of the closure system, which is now used by Hill's, Tetra, Vitakraft, Procter & Gamble for "Eukanuba" and Delipet among others. In 2002 Pactiv then introduced the sturdy "S-Slider", the so-called "Barrier Track" for applications utilising an oxygen barrier and the "Particle Plow Slider" with integral cleaning function.Key to successBeing able to open a pouch easily and conveniently in just one manoeuvre and then reclose it securely is the outstanding feature of the "Slide-Rite" and a key factor in its success, says Pactiv emphatically. "The closure marketed by us helps to maintain the freshness and aroma of foods for longer," says Josef Honert, the company's marketing manager in Europe. He adds that the pouch can still be closed reliably even after multiple use, preserving the contents and keeping them fresh for longer. These advantages make "Slide-Rite" bags the ideal packaging for products that the consumer uses portion-wise, such as pet food or fruit, meat and sausage products, cereals, sweets, moist wipes or cosmetics. "Our customers also enjoy a competitive advantage, because the products gain recognition value and thus prompt repeat purchases," Josef Honert continues. Pactiv works with licensees who manufacture the pouches, in particular pouches with side gussets, stand-up pouches or flat bags. The company also works closely with manufacturers of FFS bagging machines who integrate the "Slide-Rite" module into their systems."At Pactiv we want to continue to provide optimised packaging solutions by developing the slider technology further so as to generate products with added value for branded goods manufacturers and consumers," concludes Josef Honert.Download: Patented closure system (PDF file)
