Headquartered in Athens, Geohellas is a young technical clays company established for the purpose of developing the largest attapulgite and saponite deposits in Europe. Following a 5-year extensive research and land acquisition campaign, Geohellas now owns and controls the deposits in full. The ongoing drilling and mapping programme has already located reserves in excess of 20 million metric tons. The company has put significant investment into an extensive drilling operation, third-party laboratories for technical research and a well-equipped and staffed in-house research and development unit. Geohellas has put together a team of experienced industrial mineral design and process specialists, plus technicians and managers with in-depth knowledge of clay geology, process design, research and development and production and marketing. Through continuous research and development of the clays, the management is working to extend its market reach, both geographically and in terms of higher-value technical products. Private label and own brands In the cat litter segment, Geohellas offers a range of premium saponite clumping litters as well as a range of traditional lightweight attapulgite litters. The clumping litter, which is either higher-value “compact” or coarser litter, forms strong clumps and exhibits very high liquid and odour absorption. Likewise, the traditional lightweight litter is highly absorbent, particularly with regard to odours. The development of these followed a complete technical analysis of virtually all products in the European cat litter market and more. Geohellas also produces a variety of private labels for its clients, having already developed its own successful brands: “Kitty’s Garden” is a highly absorbent traditional lightweight attapulgite cat litter. It’s available in two varieties, with and without lavender aroma. “Sandy” is an ultra-compact clumping saponite cat litter that quickly forms strong clumps. High capacity Geohellas has a modern processing plant located close to the mines in Grevena in Western Macedonia (Greece) to facilitate integrated production (mining, processing, packaging and exporting). Selective mining is performed in three different concessions. Processing involves natural drying, pre-crushing, crushing, drying/thermal activation, milling, and screening/sizing.
