Life-cycle, organic and wellness diets, indoor and outdoor formulas, breed-specific nutrition: the trend towards individualisation is spawning a growing number of new profiles of requirements, even regarding the feeding of our pets. The purpose of modern pet food is by no means limited to satisfying a pet’s calorific needs; on the contrary, it must fulfil a wide range of functions with its composition. Vitakraft believes that, in addition to meeting the individual feeding requirements of their pets, pet owners are increasingly keen to be able to blend a dog or cat food to satisfy the pet’s other needs and also to offer their pet variety when it comes to taste and acceptance.
A complete concept
This is where Vitakraft’s new “Mix it” nutritional and feeding concept for dogs and cats comes in. “The basic idea here is that on the one hand, the nutritional demands of a dog or cat vary individually according to life phase, constitution, vitality, breed and even taste preferences. On the other hand, dogs in particular don’t want to eat the same food every day – they too like to try new flavours. But in providing this variety, it is important not to sacrifice the right combination of nutrients,” explains Dieter Meyer, head of advertising and PR at Vitakraft. The solution for dog and cat food developed by the company comprises a complete feeding concept. In addition to a basic food “Vita Basic” (for dogs and cats over one year old) and a life-cycle range “Vita Life”, the option is now available of mixing each of these main products up to half-and-half in the food bowl with so-called food mixers, without having to change the main food. If the pet owner has decided on a certain main food, the “Vita Vario” and “Vita Control” mixers offer him the opportunity to satisfy specific nutritional demands and preferences. The tasty “Vita Vario” croquettes have a particularly high meat content and offer dogs a variety of flavours with chicken, lamb, beef and duck, while the “Vita Control” functional croquettes have been developed with a view to vitality and health. These mixer products fulfil five specific nutritional needs: strengthening of the immune system, healthy joints, combating body or mouth odour and catering for dogs with long or short coats.
