Download: Healthy treats for all pets (PDF-File) "More than a million pets are fed our products on a daily basis," says Eric de Geus, product manager at Nederma. "We believe that we're the world's number one manufacturer of yeast-based products in the pet supplies sector." The Nijmegen-based company specialises in food supplements and treats, supplying around 90 different products. Of these, around 30 are for cats, 25 for dogs, and 12 for rodents and rabbits, in addition to various shampoos and care products for dogs and cats. The company was established in 1946 by the Swaab family. It is now run by Drs. Robert Legemate. The brand name "Sanal" is short for "Santé Animal" ("health for pets"). "The brand name expresses exactly what the brand represents," Eric de Geus continues, "because promoting the health of pets is our priority in the development and composition of all products." Thanks to the use of a special yeast, "Sanal" products are rich in vitamins and minerals, not only ensuring a healthy, shining coat but also keeping pets in tip-top condition. Nederma carries out extensive taste and acceptance tests: "The taste acceptance level is around 95 per cent," Eric de Geus reports proudly. The company uses carefully selected raw ingredients at its plant in the Dutch town of Nijmegen to manufacture products in line with the latest EU quality standards. Its production processes are certified as complying with HACCP and BRC standards. "We believe our products are growing in importance as responsible, healthy treats for dogs, cats and rodents," comments Eric de Geus. "With our new 'Sanal Club Cocktail' and 'Sanal Tropical Drops' we now want to appeal more distinctly to the emotional element of pet owners' shopping habits." Export plays a key role at Nederma: approx. 75 per cent of the company's total sales are achieved through foreign business partners. Nederma exports its products all over the world, for example to Albania, Australia, Bulgaria, Chile, Finland, Greece, Norway, Romania, Spain, Taiwan, Hungary and Cyprus. It perceives a growing interest in "Sanal" products in the Middle and Far East, while particularly strong growth is currently being recorded in eastern Europe. "To make further inroads into the European market, we are going to exhibit for the first time at DeZooFa in Wiesbaden," Eric de Geus concludes by saying. phg
