Established in 1986, Sepiolsa produces around 180 000 t of high-grade minerals a year. From its factory near Madrid the company dispatches more than 30 mio sacks of cat litter annually, 80 per cent of which is exported to 21 countries worldwide, chiefly France, England and Italy. Its principal products comprise sepiolite, bentonite and attapulgite: the latter comes from Dakar in Senegal, while the two other minerals are mined in Spain.Sepiolsa operates three branches in Europe, in Paris (France), Milan (Italy) and Düsseldorf (Germany), plus a further plant in Labenne in southern France. As well as being used for cat litter, sepiolite is also used as an industrial oil absorbent, as a feed additive, a rheological additive and a phytosanitary carrier. Attapulgite is also used as an industrial absorbent in addition to its use in cat hygiene applications. The company is certified as complying with ISO 9001:2000 for the extraction, development, production and distribution of the clays it handles, and the mineral composition and physical properties of the products are monitored continuously and subjected to rigorous quality inspections. The filling and packaging processes are also subject to stringent quality standards.Sepiolsa markets an extensive range of its own cat litter products. Non-clumping, lightweight sepiolite litter is used in the "Sepicat Top" and "Lovely Cat Natur" products, while attapulgite, another non-clumping lightweight litter, is used in "Eco Cat" and "Protect Cat". Bentonite, on the other hand, is clumping and is used in coarse form for "Lovely Cat" and as a fine-grained litter for "Feli-Top Ultra/Compact", "Willy-Cat Ultra/Compact", and "My Super Cat Compact". "Chat Ravi" is a vegetable litter made from maize fibre. The "China Pearls" silica product in the Sepiolsa range is purely a resale product, while "My Super Cat Dry Pearls" has become increasingly marginalised as a product in recent years and now only accounts for a small proportion of overall sales. This contrasts with the projected development of the company's new 2006 product, a clumping litter made from fine-grained bentonite with a baby powder fragrance. As well as producing its own brands, Sepiolsa specialises in the production and packaging of cat litter under the customer's trademark or under white label for retailers. The company offers a made-to-measure service to suit each customer's requirements with regard to raw material, packaging, corporate image, palletising, stock…
