The company operates a production plant covering an area of almost 25,000 m² close to Cagliari in the south of Sardinia and just a few kilometres away from the bentonite and urasite quarries there. Raw materials and packaging are also stored at the plant. “This factory is one of the most modern in the whole of Italy in terms of productivity and machinery”, says Francesca Guerrini, Laviosa’s marketing manager for the pet sector. The plant employs 26 staff. According to Francesca Guerrini, Laviosa is the only company in Italy to produce urasite. This is a type of bentonite clay that is non-clumping and has a particularly high odour absorption capacity. Urasite strongly resembles sepiolite in appearance.
One of Laviosa’s strengths is its broad product range. The Sardinian mines enable the company to produce clumping, non-clumping and perfumed litter in a variety of packagings. As a manufacturer of litter for well-known grocery chains, Laviosa also has extensive experience of the private label business. It has acquired a good reputation in the speciality trade with its “Lindo Cat” brand, which encompasses a range of very different types of litter in colour-coded packaging. • “Lindo Cat natural”, a traditional heavyweight litter (5 kg is equivalent to 7.5 l) that is non-clumping, has a high liquid absorption capacity and consists wholly of urasite. It is also obtainable in a pine fragrance;
• “Lindo Cat clumping”, a 100 per cent bentonite litter with a high clumping and absorption capacity;
• “Lindo Cat white clumping” made of 100 per cent white bentonite;
• “Lindo Cat Light”, weighing just 3.2 kg for 10 l;
