Masterfoods plots a course for the future
The biggest production plant of pet food manufacturer Masterfoods in continental Europe in Verden, Germany, is presently being extended, restructured and reoriented in a multi-phase construction project. Following extension of the premises earlier in the year to accommodate a new filler control centre, a modern, more efficient filling plant incorporating state-of-the-art technology is currently being installed. The largest construction phase of the restructuring project, investment in which is estimated at 17.5 mio euro, is now entering a critical period centring on the installation of four new, modern steam tunnels and respective cooling sections. The constituent components were fully assembled in recent weeks on a 60 x 15 m platform under canvas outside the production hall. The components, up to 22 m in length, were then transported into the production hall and reassembled there.
A powerful crane lifts the new production plant, broken down into “handy” components, piece by piece into the production hall.
The work is expected to be completed in spring 2003. By then, the entire factory is expected to be converted to a flexible production platform utilising the synergies in the goods inwards, process and goods outwards section, yet also with the capability in the future to process various packaging and product options.
