To be able to maintain its strong position in the future also, the company intends to step up its activities in the next few years. It has already opened seven new centres in the last year, and is intending to open new centres this year in Dijon, Guéret, Ornex, Valence, Groslay, Soissons, Béziers, Lieusaint and Dunkerque. Plans are also in hand to expand in Spain, where Jardiland currently has eight outlets, with proposals to start up one or two new centres a year.
The first Jardiland centre was opened 20 years ago. The dynamic company now operates well over 100 garden centres.
Jardiland’s showpiece is a 10 000 m² garden centre that opened in the spring in Lieusaint, in the Paris area – the largest centre in the group to date. Jardiland outlets otherwise have an average retail area of approximately 4 500 m², around 500 to 700 m² of which is generally given over to the pet sector. Live animals are as much a permanent feature of Jardiland as a wide range of pet food and accessories.
To be able to offer customers an even more extensive range, the company has switched to creating new Jardiland centres with a retail space of over 6 000 m². The basic range normally includes over 20 000 products; seasonal products increase this figure to 46 000. This size of retail area provides the optimum conditions for meeting the requirements of French customers, according to Jardiland director Jean-Pierre Pouchard.
Jardiland opened its first garden centre 20 years ago, in 1982. The dynamic implementation of its franchise system has lifted the group into the leading position among garden centre operators. The company achieved sales of just under 500 mio euro last year. Jardiland employs over 2 000 people throughout France. maj
