Nestlé Purina Petcare is currently facing a class action lawsuit in the USA. It is claimed that the company uses synthetic ingredients in pet food that is marketed as “natural”.
According to press reports, a number of pet owners filed a claim against Nestlé Purina in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on 12 October. They claim a breach of express warranty as well as other violations, including of New York Business law.
The plaintiffs assert that Nestlé’s marketing of various types of wet and dry pet food as “natural” is misleading, encouraging health-conscious pet owners to buy a food they believe to contain no synthetic ingredients. They state that consumers would not have bought the product or would not have paid so much for it had they known that the products contain synthetic ingredients. The plaintiffs seek financial compensation, interest, trial by jury and any other appropriate measures.
