Lowe's and Petco have announced the expansion of their store-in-store concept. The intention is to increase the number of Lowe’s branches with a Petco pet assortment from 15 at present to nearly 300. Pet requisites and veterinary care will thus be offered alongside products for DIYers. In the expansion plan, the companies are reportedly focusing in particular on rural districts across the country.

“Our first pilot programme with Petco went down well with our shoppers and brought new customers into Lowe's,” reports Bill Boltz, executive vice-president of merchandising at Lowe's. He adds: “By expanding our store-in-store presence, we offer more tailored products and services to meet the particular needs of our customers in rural and remote regions and to optimise the shopping experience.” The products include Petco own brands as well as national brands.

Petco’s Vetco clinics, which provide vaccinations, microchipping and preventive medicine, will also be open once a month in 75 Lowe’s stores and will be run by a qualified vet.
