The Hornbach Group, an internationally active organisation, increased its sales in the first quarter of 2022/23 (1 March to 31 May) compared with the record figures of the previous year. Group sales grew by 8.1 per cent to over 1.8 bn euros (previous year: 1.68 bn euros).
The biggest division, Hornbach Baumarkt, which operated 169 stores and nine online shops in all in nine European countries as of 31 May, increased its net sales by 8.2 per cent to 1.7 bn euros (previous year: 1,58 bn euros). Adjusted for retail area and currency fluctuations, sales grew by 5.3 per cent in the first nine months across the division (previous year: 4.3 per cent).
Net sales of the Hornbach DIY stores in Germany increased in the first quarter by 4.7 per cent to 853.2 mio euros (previous year: 814.9 mio euros). Sales on a comparable retail area increased by 4.4 per cent (previous year: -0.1 per cent).
Net sales outside Germany grew by 12 per cent to 852.1 mio euros (previous year: 760.9 mio euros). The foreign element of the sales of the Hornbach Baumarkt division increased from 48.3 to 50 per cent. Sales in other European countries on a comparable store area and adjusted for currency fluctuations increased by 6.2 per cent (previous year: 9.5 per cent).
Online sales in the first quarter accounted for 15.3 per cent of Hornbach Baumarkt’s overall sales in the first quarter. Compared with the same period in the previous year, in which high street sales in some regions were still limited, Click & Collect in particular was used much less than expected. Overall, online sales declined by comparison with the previous year by 30.4 per cent to 261.4 mio euros.
