Biomill in Herzogenbuchsee has announced that it has pulled out of dog and cat food production with effect from the end of 2018. The production plant in Herzogenbuchsee will close at the end of 2019, when Biomill will also relinquish its business operations. The company's small animal food business has been moved in the meantime to neighbouring feed manufacturer UFA, which has also taken on some of the 18 people previously employed at Biomill. Both UFA and Biomill are subsidiaries of the Fenaco cooperative, to which the agricultural retail group Landi also belongs.Biomill made around 40 per cent of its net earnings of approx. 10 mio Swiss francs annually from dog and cat food. Swiss pet product retailers have reacted to the closure of Biomill with incomprehension, but view it as a sign of the impending consolidation of the Swiss pet supplies market.
