The trade war between China and the US has started to affect the pet food sector. As the newspaper Global Times reports on its website, more and more Chinese pet owners are considering giving up pet food imported from the US due to its increased price in the domestic market. A white-collar worker in Beijing told the newspaper that the price of a type of US Natural Balance cat food recently rose from 380 yuan (55.26 dollars) to 439 yuan (63.84 dollars).
According to pet owners, who are quoted in this article, many consumers aim to shift to domestic products or pet food imported from countries like New Zealand, Canada or Europe.
