The aquatics company Rena, which is part of the Mars Group, has moved production of its aquariums from Annecy in France to Portugal, the trade journal “Animal Distribution” reports. This step by Rena has resulted in the loss of 64 jobs in Annecy. The report says that only the marketing, R&D and merchandising departments will remain at the French site, which will continue to employ 50 people. Rena has had individual technical products manufactured at its Portuguese plant previously. The company is hoping to achieve greater competitiveness in the long term by shifting production.
