Central Garden & Pet looks back on strong growth in 2006

For the fourth quarter of fiscal 2006, Central Garden & Pet reported net sales of $ 421 mio, an increase of 30 per cent from $ 323 mio in the comparable 2005 period. Net sales for the pet products segment were $ 237 mio, an increase of 48 per cent compared to the fourth quarter of fiscal 2005. Pet branded products sales increased $ 69 mio or 55 per cent and sales of other manufacturers’ products increased 21 per cent. Organic sales increased 18 per cent in the quarter. Operating income for the pet products segment was $ 31 mio in the quarter, an increase of 69 per cent, when compared to the fourth quarter of fiscal 2005. The company initiated its fiscal 2007 guidance: net sales for the year are projected to be between $ 1.76 bn and $ 1.78 bn, an increase of approximately 10 per cent compared with fiscal 2006. Operating income is expected to be between $ 162 mio and $ 166 mio, an increase of approximately 20 per cent. Net income is expected to be between $ 73 mio and $ 75 mio, an increase of approximately 13 per cent compared with fiscal 2006.
