Mars buys US operations of Doane Pet Care Company

Mars has entered into an agreement to acquire Doane Pet Care Enterprises from Teachers’ Private Capital, the private equity arm of Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan. Doane Pet Care is a leading private label manufacturer of dry pet food and has 20 plants and two distribution centres in the USA. Current Doane president and CEO Doug Cahill will manage the newly combined Mars North American Pet Business in Nashville. The acquisition by Mars will not include Doane’s European business, which will be sold to an undisclosed third party. In April Mars bought S&M NuTec, the manufacturer of “Greenies” dog treats.
