Not only is Petco based in Austria, but most of its products are manufactured there. “Thanks to the strict regional food legislation, the highest quality can be guaranteed. The provenance of all raw materials is also 100 per cent transparent and can be traced back at every point in time,” emphasises company founder Katharina Miklauz. Even where production in Austria is impossible due to a lack of suitable processes, however, manufacturing is not relocated unnecessarily to distant locations. Appropriate production plants are then chosen in Germany that meet the stringent requirements of Katharina Miklauz.
On account of the high standards that production facilities in Austria generally have to fulfil, the company has so far been able to find a large number of partners in Austria for the production of moist food, dry food, treats and food supplements.
Sustainable production
When selecting production plants, however, the idea of sustainability features high on Petco’s list. The entire production process for tins of moist food is powered by renewable energy and the proximity of production to Petco’s logistics centre ensures short transport routes. A production process that saves water is used for careful preparation of the tins, not only to conserve valuable resources but also to offer canines a particularly flavour-rich experience when consuming the food. “It is important to know that a product may only display that it is produced with all raw ingredients of 100 per cent food grade when the production plant itself is authorised to produce not only pet food but also foodstuffs,” explains Katharina Miklauz.
“With our products, it is important to me that only the best is good enough for our four-legged friends. I put my heart into every product development and I can say with a clear conscience that I can recommend our products for any dog for a long and healthy life. After all, that’s what really matters, isn’t it?” says Katharina Miklauz in conclusion.
