While the first show in 2017 attracted 16 200 visitors, the numbers were down by a thousand in 2018 (15 237). However, this year's show brought around 660 more attendees to the show halls in Madrid. Organised by IFEMA, the latest Iberzoo+Propet took place from 21 to 23 March.
A total of 15 894 trade visitors attended the show, 6.5 per cent of whom were from outside Spain, from 43 different countries. Portugal, Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Belgium, the United States, Argentina, Germany, Andorra, the Netherlands, Turkey, Ukraine and Greece were the countries with most visitors, according to the organiser's closing report. From Spain, after the Madrid area, the regions with the largest number of trade visitors were Catalonia, Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha, Valencia, Castilla y León, the Canary Islands, Galicia and the Basque Country.
The leading profile among trade visitors was the pet product store professional at 26.5 per cent, followed by veterinarians at 20.6 per cent, groomer-stylists at 18.8 per cent, clinic staff at 13 per cent, and breeders, trainers or educators at 9.9 per cent. There were also retail channel professionals, which include retail, purchasing centres and large stores, kennels and catteries, shelters or reception centres.

Popular sectors

The sectors at Iberzoo+Propet that aroused the greatest interest among trade visitors were Animal Products and Accessories (17 per cent), Food and Nutrition (16 per cent), Pharmaceuticals and Health Products (12 per cent), Hygiene and Beauty (12 per cent), Pet Shop Equipment (11 per cent), Veterinary Clinic Equipment (10 per cent), Fashion and Accessories (10 per cent) and Aquariums & Terrariums (6 per cent).
There was a total of 239 direct exhibitors, with 257 companies represented and 748 brands, on more than 7 000 m² of exhibition space. 57 countries were represented in all.
Iberzoo+Propet included the second edition of the Aedpac Forum on the Spanish Pet Industry and Business. The forum focused on market experiences, and featured presentations about different success stories from companies in the sector in Spanish and international markets.
