"This partnership will enable the two organisations to combine their expertise in a range of pet-wearable health projects and enhance the levels of data related to tracking pet behaviours, habits and activities," Felcana states in a press release. The initiative is intended to result in an improvement in the welfare of animals in the future. The collaboration will pool expertise at the RVC with the state-of-the-art artificial intelligence that Felcana has to offer. The integration of their products and skills will help to predict, simplify and treat health issues facing dogs and cats.
Felcana offers a platform, using a bespoke modelling process which revolutionises how owners monitor their dog and cat health. Through complex scientific algorithms, which can interpret a pet's behavioural patterns such as drinking, eating and sleeping, owners are now able to track their pet's needs through their smartphones. It is hoped this technology will provide effective relief for conditions such as arthritis, diabetes and kidney failure at an earlier stage to minimise the pain for the animal.
Help for owners
Felcana was founded by James Andrews. As a veterinarian, he relied heavily on pet owners' observations to spot subtle changes in behaviours and habits to provide triage advice. Not only did this make it difficult to accurately identify early signs of illness in dogs and cats, but it also limited relieving the progressive discomfort of pets, who can't voice how they feel.
One of the goals is to help owners spot subtle changes in their pet's health, activity or behaviour, giving vets the data they need to make more accurate, timely diagnoses. Controlled via a mobile app, Felcana's Digital Pet Health Platform integrates robust data science with artificial intelligence and veterinary expertise to track and monitor a dog or cat's activity and behavioural patterns to help owners understand what is 'normal' for their pet. By helping owners to better understand their pet, Felcana answers owners' concerns and prevents unnecessary trips to the vet. This frees up veterinarians' time and resources for the animals that really need it - saving owners money in unnecessary bills.
