Successful premiere

Over 16 200 visitors from all over the world came to Madrid in March, to the delight of organisers and attendees alike. It would appear that Spain once again has a big trade show of its own.

The visitors came from 40 countries across the globe to Iberzoo+Propet, organised by IFEMA and promoted by AMVAC and AEDPAC. The overall total confirms that the organisers have got the concept right, because it also represents an increase of 31.4 per cent compared with the previous edition, when Iberzoo and Propet were still held as independent fairs.
Seven per cent of the visitors were foreign. Portugal topped the country ranking, accounting for more than 60 per cent of all foreign visitors, followed by Italy (5.5 per cent), France, the United Kingdom and Germany. Overall, there was healthy growth in visitor numbers from Germany, Andorra, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Italy, Poland and Ukraine, as well as China and the United States.
Within Spain, Madrid was the main region from which most professionals came to the event, followed by Catalonia with 8.5 per cent of the total, with an increase of 22 per cent in the number of visitors. Andalusia, the Autonomous Region of Valencia, Castilla-La Mancha and Castile and Leon ranked next. There was also an important increase in visitor numbers from the Canary Islands, Malaga, Seville, Murcia, Ponte­vedra, Vizcaya and Saragossa.

Brands and visitors

Iberzoo+Propet filled hall 9 at IFEMA-Feria de Madrid with 239 exhibitors, 242 represented companies and 678 brands from 53 countries. The sectors that attracted the most interest were the products and accessories for pets, with 18 per cent, followed by food and nutrition (15 per cent), hygiene and beauty (13 per cent), pharmaceuticals and health (11 per cent), equipment for shops (10 per cent), fashion and accessories (10 per cent), equipment for veterinary clinics (9 per cent), and services and management and aquariums/terrariums.
In terms of the professional profile of visitors, there was a more or less equal turnout from the animal health and specialised retail sectors, which together accounted for 60 per cent of the total. The remainder were divided among dog stylists and groomers (18 per cent), who are growing in importance, and animal care workers who recommend these products and services (23 per cent).
