When Premier Pet Nutrition (PPN) manufactures each custom-made premix of vitamins and minerals for pet food manufacturers, it needs to know that every bag made at its pet food factory includes the exact and complete nutrition demanded by the customer. The new pharmaceutical-standard premix facility is designed to deliver unsurpassed levels of assurance through automated enhancements of the ultra-safe and residue-free tumble mix blending system. Commercial manager Ben Helm commented: “From their own experience, pet food manufacturers know how challenging it can be to ensure there is no cross-contamination between pet food batches. Imagine how much more challenging it can be when handling fine vitamin and mineral powders.” Premier Pet Nutrition has invested heavily in the new premix facility to take pet premix assurance for pet food manufacturers to the next level. Ben Helm doesn’t believe there is a more advanced pet premix facility that is able to deliver custom pet premixes to the same level of homogeneity, safety and traceability. Pet premix manufacture is based in Premier Pet Nutrition’s head office in Rugeley, Staffordshire, in the UK. How it works Every batch of micro-ingredients is sampled and validated prior to mixing using the in-house NIR system. Prior to being used in a premix, all ingredients are positively identified and verified as being safe for use. Automated weighers and a micro-dispenser ensure that even the most complex of pet premixes will be created accurately and consistently. The fully automated residue-free tumble mixing system gives complete confidence in the final product. Applying pharmaceutical technology, each tote is filled, mixed and discharged without the use of augers, elevators, belts, blowers or any of the conventional methods that can result in cross-contamination. Automated packing and stacking technology means that each custom premix is dispatched in the most efficient configuration. Metal detection and check-weighers ensure accuracy and safety in every bag of premix. Download: Perfect premixes (PDF file)
