Naturediet announces newcomers
As organisations struggle to cope with the downturn in the economy, Naturediet is looking to expand its operations to meet the increasing demand for its products in domestic and European markets. The Norfolk-based company announces Paul Clark as its new site engineer, and Terence Hills as its production manager. Paul Clark, a former civil servant, is an engineer specialising in computerised maintenance management systems. Terence Hills joins Naturediet with a wealth of manufacturing experience gained within large multinational companies and smaller privately owned ventures.
Pet greetings from Prague
At the EU Summit in Prague, US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle were presented with gifts of stylish dog bowls and a bed for their new dog by the current president of the EU Council, Mirek Topolanek. The gifts were an exclusive edition that even carried a special “President’s Dog” logo. They were manufactured by Swiss company Lillibed.

H.H. Backer’s 21st Annual Pet Industry Spring Trade Show, held in Baltimore, drew more than 5 300 registered buyers from 1 707 firms. According to trade show director Colette Fairchild, a total of 319 exhibitors displayed products in more than 520 booths. In addition, 66 exhibitors displayed at the Backer show for the first time. “Despite what’s going on with the economy, the Backer Spring show performed well beyond the expectations of most,” Colette Fairchild said. “It was encouraging for the pet industry to see a steady flow of qualified buyers interacting with exhibitors on the show floor.” H.H. Backer Associates’ next show is the 43rd Annual Pet Industry Christmas Trade Show from 2-4 October in Rosemont.
Successful “Meet the Buyer” event
Overseas buyers of garden, leisure and pet products, invited by the Gardenex and PetQuip export federations to meet British suppliers in the UK, have hailed the latest ‘Meet the Buyer’ event as a great success. The event involved buyers from Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Romania and Sweden who met nearly 40 suppliers in one-to-one business-generating meetings. Ingrid Talving of Bramham Trade AS, Estonia’s largest distributor in the pet care sector, was one buyer who left the meeting with a whole range of product samples and stated that much business would result from her visit.
