The first issue of PET in Europe appeared on 21 January 2001. The new international trade magazine was received extremely well from the outset by the pet supplies sector and quickly became a huge success. In particular, the country reports that appear in each issue have now become essential reading for many export managers, as they not only contain market data but also look in detail at the specific characteristics of the respective countries. As is apparent from the name, PET in Europe concentrated from the start on the European market. Since the magazine came onto the market, however, the international pet supplies business has changed considerably. Globalisation is continuing apace and continental divides no longer pose an obstacle to this expansion. China, India and Brazil are among the most dynamic markets in the pet sector; trade fairs like Global Pet Expo in the USA, the CIPS in China and Aquarama in Singapore appeal to a worldwide audience. Business links between the leading speciality retail chains and their suppliers have long since acquired a global dimension. And the latest International Pet Conference in Amsterdam, on which we report in detail in this special issue, attracted not only European companies, but also firms from the USA, South Africa, Brazil and Taiwan. Think global, so the saying goes. A trade magazine must adapt to these changes in the market, and so from the start of the coming year PET in Europe will be changing its name to PET worldwide and will report to a greater extent on events, markets and companies outside Europe. As a result, it will be more wide-ranging and surely even more interesting. You'll find more information on the Internet at Hyperlink www.PET-global.com/PETworldwide. Yours
