Rarely have exhibitors been so united in their verdict on a trade show: Interzoo 2008 was a resounding success. And there is currently nothing to suggest that the success story of this world-leading fair will not continue in the next few years. The market still offers great growth prospects, because in many countries pets are only gradually assuming the role of a member of the family. Once this transition has been made, people spend a lot more on their dogs, cats and other pets - not just to provide them with the basics in terms of food, but to spoil them with attractive accessories, high-quality special foods, healthy care products and tasty rewards. The biggest increase in visitor numbers derives from the emerging markets of eastern Europe, South America and Asia. 30 per cent more visitors from eastern Europe alone shows clearly where Interzoo could generate further growth in the years to come. Strong growth in numbers from countries outside Europe was observed above all in the case of Brazil, Israel, South Africa, Australia and India - markets that are likewise developing dynamically at present. The sector exhibited in Nuremberg in a good mood. The industry made it clear at the show that it intends to invest primarily in premium, design and quality in the future. Current trends such as nano-aquariums, luxury accessories and outdoor products for dogs could catch on even more strongly in the next few months. To ensure that the pet supplies trade is well prepared to meet the demand from its customers, the industry presented an attractive range of products at Interzoo that can provide a fresh impetus for business. To distinguish itself from other distribution channels in terms of quality, the speciality trade should look even harder in future at its strengths and weaknesses and work logically to consolidate the strengths and eliminate the weaknesses.
