2006 set a new record. 1 275 exhibitors from 56 countries, an increase of 16 per cent compared with two years ago, presented their current offering of food and grooming products, pet accessories and services at the four-day trade show in an overall exhibition area of  78 900 m² (2004: 68 700 m²). The 29th Interzoo also recorded a 10 per cent increase in visitors, with 34 181 trade visitors (2004: 31 072) from 108 countries (2004: 103). "The new records have again impressively proved Interzoo's ranking as world fair for the pet supplies industry," says Hans-Jochen Büngener, chairman of the Interzoo exhibition committee. "A global range of high-quality products was presented on even more attractively designed exhibition stands." Klaus Oechsner, president of the Zentralverband Zoologischer Fachbetriebe e.V. (ZZF), the sponsor of Interzoo, confirms the successful global impact of Interzoo 2006: "The exhibition has created impetus for optimism and valuable innovation boosts for the international pet supplies trade." The proportion of foreign companies exhibiting at Interzoo rose to 75 per cent (2004: 73 per cent). Apart from Germany with 321 companies (2004: 296), the leading exhibiting nations were the People's Republic of China with 160 (2004: 126), the USA with 129 (2004: 111) and Italy with 100 (2004: 105) companies. The international range of visitors to the show also increased, with the share of visitors from abroad rising to 58 per cent (2004: 53 per cent). Interzoo 2006 registered a rise in visitors from all continents. The countries with the highest visitor attendance were Germany with 14 277, Italy with 1 951, France with 1 127 and Great Britain with 1 074. A total of 24 119 visitors (2004: 23 147) came from the old EU member states, four per cent more than in 2004. Attendance from the new EU member states increased 11 per cent to 2 735 visitors (2004: 2 456). Considerably more visitors came to Nuremberg from Eastern Europe (up 25 per cent). For example, there were 134 visitors (2004: 52) from Bulgaria, 170 (2004: 62) from Romania and 68 (2004: 14) from Belarus. 3 757 visitors in all (2004: 3 007) came from Eastern Europe. The number of visitors from all European countries rose by seven per cent to 29 349 (2004: 27 346). The contingent of visitors from overseas also grew, increasing by 33 per cent to 860 for North America, by 31 per cent for South and Central America (to 451) and by 41 per cent to 350 for Australia/Oceania.
