The launch of “Liquifry”, a food for baby ornamental fish, marked the entry of UK firm Interpet into the market over 50 years ago. Today the Dorking-based company employing 150 staff is one of the leading UK suppliers to the pet product sector, with a range comprising around 5,000 products that has gradually been expanded by the acquisition of brands such as “Pet Love”, “Blagdon” and “Mikki”.
Interpet has developed its own family brands for the various product groups, and these are well-known in the industry:
The “Interpet” brand covers food for ornamental fish, aquarium filters, care products for tropical and pond fish, aquarium lighting and decorative features for aquariums.
“Interpet Publishing” offers over 1,000 titles on all aspects of pet and fish keeping.
Filters and pumps for garden ponds are marketed under the “Blagdon” brand name.
The “Mikki” brand covers grooming products, training aids and care products for dogs and other pets.
Toys for dogs, cats, small animals and birds, feeding bowls are marketed under the “Pet Love” brand name. Treats for small animals also come under this brand.
The “Red Rum” brand covers a complete range of care products for horses. This range has been successful in both European and US markets.

The company intends above all to increase its export trade in the next few months. Interpet products are already available in over 50 countries worldwide, with exports accounting for approx. 10 per cent of sales. The main delivery destinations include Germany, the USA, the Far East and Australia.

Interpet underlined its reputation as an innovative company at Glee Petindex, exhibiting the new “T 5 Compact“ series of aquarium lights, which are expected to surpass the success of even their current T8 lighting series. “Anyone, I am sure, will be absolutely amazed at the brightness generated by such small and compact lights, which provide three times more light than the conventional T8“, explains Jim Bass.
