Mars Inc. has merged its North American divisions, according to the trade journal “Pet Business“. The parent company will reportedly now be run under the name Masterfoods USA, while the pet food division is to be renamed Masterfoods USA Petcare with immediate effect. John Curtiss remains general manager of the pet food division and will report to the president of Masterfoods USA, Bob Gamgort. Gamgort, the successor to the now retired Michael Murphy, is answerable in turn to Paul Michaels, who now presides over Mars Inc. in America. As stated in “Pet Business“, Mars achieves half of its total sales of US $ 15 bn in America alone.
Is Doane planning to pull out of Europe?
Doane Pet Care Company, the biggest manufacturer of private label pet food in the USA, is intending to sell its European pet business, according to reports in the US media. A possible sale is expected to take place in the first half of 2003. The sale would also have implications for A/S Arovit Petfood, which Doane bought up in May 2000. Doane Pet Care has 24 production plants in the USA and 7 in Europe. It has sales of around US $ 1 bn.
APPMA Show moves to Atlanta
In 2003, the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association (APPMA) will host its 45th Annual Pet Products Trade Show from 26 to 28 February at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia. The APPMA Show 2003 has moved from a second quarter show to the first show of the year in order to give more buying and selling opportunities to our participants. According to the organizers, as a first quarter show the APPMA Show is assisting the exhibitors in meeting the exacting demands of their customers – pet product buyers. Representing the leading pet product manufacturers from the U.S. and around the globe, the APPMA Show 2003 guarantees the largest showcase of the hottest new products, and the trend-setting new companies that are revolutionizing the industry with their innovative creations.
