Maxi Zoo in France continues to have major expansion plans for 2025 and only entered the telemedicine veterinary and pet health insurance markets in December. The Managing Director of Maxi Zoo France, Jan Wejbrandt, explained the strategy and plans for 2025 in an interview with the French pet trade magazine Petmarket.

After 50 new shops opening in 2024, the brand plans to open 65 shops this year and maintain this pace every year. Over 300 new permanent employees will also be hired to achieve this. Every pet owner in the country should be able to reach a shop in less than 20 minutes. New shop formats are currently being examined or have already been introduced, such as smaller concepts for rural or urban regions, Wejbrandt told the magazine.

“In an environment characterised by persistent residual inflation, Maxi Zoo will continue its price efforts without neglecting the quality of its products,” Wejbrandt promised in the interview. To this end, Maxi Zoo will strengthen its omnichannel expertise, introduce a new grooming service in its largest shops and expand its range for puppies and kittens.

The brand also launched a teleconsultancy service called Maxi Zoo Vet in 2024. This is available seven days a week from 8 am to midnight, including weekends and public holidays, and offers pet owners the opportunity to contact a vet easily and flexibly 365 days a year. Vets in France answer general questions about animal health via a video call made from a smartphone, tablet or computer.

In addition, health insurance specifically for dogs and cats has been developed in collaboration with the Pinnacle Pet Group, the European pet insurance specialist, as less than 10 per cent of pet owners in France are insured. Joining Maxi Zoo Assurance is therefore completely paperless and takes place online.
