Werewolf Syndrome: Dog bones from two companies recalled

The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) has issued a warning about several dog chews due to serious neurological problems. These Barkoo chews are thought to be the cause of these behavioural changes, which can include extreme restlessness and sudden panic attacks, uncontrolled movements, yelping and barking, aggressiveness, salivation and epileptic seizures. The so-called werewolf syndrome can be fatal for dogs.

The Barkoo chewing bones are sold in the Netherlands through the online shops Zooplus and Bitiba, but according to Produktwarnung.eu, they were "in all likelihood also available in this country". According to the report, the Barkoo Chew Stick (29 centimetres) and the Barkoo Chew Bone (11 centimetres) are affected. The address on the packaging is Matina GmbH, 800331 Munich, Germany, service@matina-gmbh.de, www.matina-gmbh.de.

The Danish authorities have also issued a warning about the same problems. The Danish company Chrisco has therefore recalled a total of six dog food products. It has stopped working with the foreign supplier. It cannot be ruled out that these products have also been sold in Germany, as the company supplies many countries, including Germany.
