As part of its work, the Royal Canin Foundation focuses on three key areas: on healthy environments for working dogs, on pets that play a key role in the medical healthcare of people, and on pets that play an important role in promoting people's mental health. Corresponding projects or initiatives will each be funded for a period of one year.
In its inaugural year of 2021, the Royal Canin Foundation is supporting more than ten grant projects worldwide with a total of approximately one million dollars. These include research projects on the use of pets in Covid-19 and cancer screening, as well as initiatives that develop sustainable rearing and training methods for assistance dogs. Support is also being given to a project that uses assistance dogs to enhance the communication skills of children with autism and an initiative that is developing certification for trainers of medical detection dogs.
