High numbers in Shanghai

The 26th edition of Pet Fair Asia brought the global pet industry community together in Shanghai from 21-25 August  for its largest edition to date.

Pet Fair Asia 2024 was another record-breaking edition with the highest international attendance in its history. More than 2 500 companies showcased all types of pet industry products across 300 000 m² of gross exhibition space. Pet Fair Asia Supply also made its debut as a co-located show, bringing together 600 exhibitors from across the pet industry supply chain.

Attendance at the show remained robust and far exceeded expectations, with a total of 124 000 professionals from 91 different countries, including China. In particular, there was a remarkable increase of 41.8 per cent in the number of international visitors, who for the first time accounted for 10 per cent of the total, making this edition the most international to date. The number of consumers visiting the event over the last two days also reached an all-time high of 386 000.

“The growth of Pet Fair Asia, both in terms of size and visitor numbers, was nothing less than a testament to the pet industry’s confidence in the Asian markets, despite the current uncertain economic environment,” said David Zhong, founder of Pet Fair Asia.

Innovations and trends

Exhibitors had the opportunity to display the wealth of product categories and some of the most innovative ideas in the pet industry. More than 30 new brands were launched during the show, along with 2 000 new products in the dedicated Innovation area. Attendees highlighted the impressive upgrade in quality and cutting-edge technology applications that characterise Made in China products.

In line with consumer trends, the Pet Friendly Lifestyle area welcomed the ever-growing attention to pets from various related industries. It brought together leading brands from sectors such as furniture, interior design, home decoration, electrical appliances and more to show how other industries are embracing the philosophy of creating a balanced living environment between people and pets in today’s society. Panasonic, Honeywell, Dyson, to name but a few, had their showcases in this area.

Trade and education

The focus of Pet Fair Asia is to create business and trade opportunities for all players in the market. It fully aggregates upstream and downstream resources of the industry chain and provides a one-stop trading platform where business discussions prevail. In order to better match supply and demand, the organisers place special emphasis on the hosted buyer programme, both on the domestic and international demand side. 100 handpicked international buyers from 15 different countries and more than 30 purchasing groups from all over China participated in various tailor-made business-matching activities on site, including visits to selected exhibitors’ booths according to the buyers’ purchasing needs, speed matchmaking, networking events and more. International buyers also had the opportunity to take part in a half-day tour of a local pet shop and veterinary clinic to gain first-hand experience of local practices and consumer behaviour.
