Both the Chinese president Xi Jinping and a host of prominent figures from business and politics attended the opening ceremony of the purchasing fair, which featured exclusively import products from 172 countries on an exhibition area of 270 000 m2. Around 3 600 of the biggest firms across the globe were part of the fair, including 200 of the Fortune 500 companies. According to the fair organiser, business to the value of 57.8 bn dollars was transacted at the fair.
The dog and cat specialist Gimborn was also represented at the show and was the only European manufacturer of pet food and cat litter to appear. It was represented by the three brands GimCat, GimDog and Biokat's on the stand of 5Ctong, the new importer of Gimborn products into the Chinese market. Hong-Kong-based 5Ctong is a subsidiary of the Wuchan Zhongda Yungshan Group, which is ranked 270th on the Fortune Global 500 list of companies with 19000 employees and turnover of 40.9 bn dollars.
Contract signed
As the fair progressed, the company participated in various meetings with the German and Chinese governments as well as with the German Embassy in China. For the Gimborn Group, the CIIE was a great success, as the fair has a high political as well as economic profile.
