Small animals and rabbits are typical "starter pets" with regard to pet owning, and there are very few children that haven't had one. All too often, however, interest in the cute play pal wanes and it is forgotten because it doesn't really do much and all efforts to play with it are met with strong resistance. Then only the basic essentials are met in caring for it. At some stage, the pet dies and this chapter of pet owning comes to an end before it ever properly begins.
"Strengthening the bond between human and pet was our main focus in developing the bunny Interactive line," says Katharina Engling, head of research and development. She says there is a lot of ground to make up in the pet product sector in making small animals and rabbits a member of the family, as has already happened with dogs and cats. 
"bunny Interactive gives pets the opportunity to behave naturally," says Katharina Engling. She compares the line to an adventure playground for small animals and rabbits.

Focus on interaction

The entire range is offered on three levels:
Level 1 offers products with which the pets can amuse themselves and refine and develop their senses. Observations at Bunny have revealed that the pets are even-tempered and contented. They also take pleasure in life, which has an impact ultimately on the owner and strengthens their bond.
Level 2 promotes interaction between human and pet further. The owner conceals special treats that are then sought and found by the pet. The modes of behaviour are observed and studied by the owner, decreasing stress and further enhancing the contentment of human and pet.
Level 3 is then virtually a premium class, in which tricks and exercises are practised with the pet. Training treats and cards along with a clicker provide for long-lasting, joint engagement of human and pet.

Growing professionalism

At Bunny, it has been observed that the level of professionalism in the segment relating to small animal and rabbit keeping is increasing steadily, and this is actively developed. "Species-specific care and understanding for pets must continue to be promoted," adds Katharina Engling. Specialist retailers and export partners play a significant role in the development work.
