Founded in 1978, the company began developing unique processes to supply high-quality pet food ingredients, while simultaneously instituting programs to keep the same type of hygiene standards that are measured by human food plants. "Along the way, our focus has always been centred on quality," says Gregg Griffin, ADF director of sales and marketing. "We were one of the pioneers in food safety in the pet food industry. We asked the American Institute of Baking (AIB), a human food manufacturing inspection service, to come in and assess our production process." Today, all spray-drying facilities are inspected by AIB, and all plants have received the "superior" rating - AIB's highest. While all of ADF's production facilities are located in or near the major poultry-producing areas of the United States, finished product distribution is available throughout the European Union. Product can be delivered to any location in the EU within three business days by the distributors.
To achieve and maintain its rating, the company adopted two of the most powerful tools in the industry used to control or improve a manufacturing process: HACCP (Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Points) and SPC (Statistical Process Control). HACCP is a tool used to help control all important aspects in the manufacturing process. SPC is another tool that helps make sure that HACCP requirements are met. The ADF Corporate QA Audit Team is another way that the company is continuously monitoring and examining its facili-ties to ensure that its QA programmes are working, and that adherence to all QA programmes is documented and followed.
Palatable protein for pets
At ADF, the focus on producing value-added products starts with the highest quality materials in order to make the most nutritious, cost-effective pet food products, using the company's basic expertise in dehydration and spray-drying of protein products. ADF leveraged this expertise into becoming one of the leading suppliers of high-quality, spray-dried protein ingredients to the pet food and animal feed industries. Its products include spray-dried egg, chicken meat and chicken livers, as well as other spray-dried protein ingredients. All these protein products are sourced from United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) food-grade processing plants. These natural ingredients can be used in both wet and dry food for both cats and dogs:
